Another success story that warms the heart of all who work with the library is that of Consuelo Juarez. One of the first to sign up for typing, Consuelo continued through the computer classes and learned word processing as well as spreadsheet programs. Starting as a volunteer, she became so valuable that she was hired as a librarian.

Shown above with Beverly Kitson, the library's director, Consuelo became so interested in the library and its importance to the community that she enrolled in the National University to get a degree in library science. She had to drive an hour and a half each way to Nicoya, where the university is located, over dirt roads that are almost impassable when it rains. But she perservered, and today she is the librarian (with a nice increase in salary).

Shown above Consuelo is helping the computer instructor (on the right) with a class. Her enthusiasm for learning and the library led her to the formation of a literary discussion group among Costa Rican residents of Nosara, and she also organized a theater club that writes and produces their own plays and presents them to the public as a fund-raising event for the library. Her son Mikael, on the right, now has his first job as a high school science teacher and also teaches computers, using skills he learned at the library.
